Traditionally Japanese visit a shrine in the New Year to get a fortune. Although I need no fortune I just went to Tenmangu, a famous shrine in Osaka, to capture some fresh air. But I have to admit that I failed. This picture may tell something about it.
新年の神社から
私は普通初詣などには行かないのだが今年は近くの大阪天満宮へ何か新しい空気を探しに出かけてみました。さすがに人も多く屋台なども出て賑やかなのだが、あまりよい素材はなく賽銭もあげずに早々と帰ってきました。

もうずいぶん長いこと関西方面に出かけていません。
チャンスがあれば京都や奈良、大阪あたりもぶらついてみたいものです。
I always felt interested in those things. Only in Japan I've seen the mix of old traditions mixed with modern elements.
