I always have to be amazed at the functional beauty of the insects and the design of butterflies, among others, should be the most elegant one.

Flowering in summer

Although it's scorching hot in Japan we can see several summer flowers on the streets. But I have seldom taken pictures of them because they are not so good for photography.

夏に咲く

日本の夏は焼け付くように厳しいが、街中でも百日紅や夾竹桃、フヨウやムクゲ、それにひまわりなどの花が見られる。しかしながらそれらは光画には余り向かないので撮ることは殆んどない。

This photo is a scene from Tenjin Festival, which is the biggest festival in Osaka and said to be one of the three greatest festivals in Japan.

催太鼓

何だかよく分からないのが魅力の大阪天神祭りだが、この催太鼓は数ある催事の中でも天神講（獅子舞と傘踊り）と並んで最もおもしろいものだろう。

Taking shelter in the shade

We have recently experienced some blazing hot days here in Osaka. I'm just sweltering and even a cat shows her/his displeasure at the extreme heat.

Unexpected collaboration

I took this photo just in front of a pachinko shop (Japanese gambling game) at the summer festival. The banner of a woman was not for the festival but just an ad of the shop.

予期せぬ共演

祭りに幟（のぼり）は欠かせないものだがパチンコ屋にとっても同じようである。

As it was scorching hot the woman was fanning those who were doing their hard work at the festival.

The lantern street

What I'm always charmed with at festivals is the warm light of Japanese lanterns. But it is sad that we have mostly abandoned this modest lighting culture in everyday life.

提灯通り

祭りで私がいつも魅了されるのは提灯の暖かな光。しかしこの奥ゆかしい光の文化を日々の暮らしの中で殆んど捨ててしまったのは悲しい事である。

Under the shiny sky

Despite punishing and blistering weather I was pleased to take pictures of the festival under the beautiful sky.

先日は私の住む城東区（鴫野・今福・蒲生）で夏祭りがあった。焼け付くような厳しい日射しではあったが青空とだんじりの協演は美しいものだった。
